What I find the most infuriating in the whole Apple Intelligence saga is that Apple claimed (and continues to claim) that iPhone 16 Pro was built for Apple Intelligence.
When in reality, when we look at how slowly these “intelligence” features are rolled out, or delayed altogether (so the parts of it are still missing), it’s clear that these features were missing in action when Apple was designing the iPhone 16 Pro. In my book, “Built for” implies a ready, optimized experience — not a partially rolled-out or evolving one. (Not to mention that this aforementioned intelligence is still not very intelligent, but we can let it slip.) Some Apple Intelligence features offload tasks to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is not built by Apple.
Additionally, this claim suggests iPhone 16 Pro is uniquely designed for AI, when in fact, most of the functionality could theoretically run on other high-end devices with similar chips (e.g., iPhone 15 Pro). In other words, the limitation could be artificial or based on marketing strategy, not strict hardware requirements. Apple had no idea what these intelligence features might be, or what requirements they may impose, so saying that something (in this case, the iPhone 16 Pro) was built for non-existent features is very misleading.
